Picture of the 2011

-Comment why it is your favourite.
The reason that this picture is my favorite is as I looking at it, I can definitely see the seriousness of the pictures. Also, the color and mood in the picture really fit well together.  People’s facial expressions are various and interesting to take a deep look. Even though it is not a pleasant happening in the picture, I like the fact that through picture, I am able to see the intense of the event.

-Explain what the event is. What is the significance of the event/photo?
What is happening in this picture is that supporters of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak fight with anti-Mubarak protesters on Feb. 2. The significance in this picture is that there is a tank that people standing on and the stones are tossed to people. Also, the people in the below have a serious and worrying look. Because Mubarak’s governing was strong and unfair, for Egyptians, it was important to stand up for their rights and desire for the democracy.
-Describe the photos, how does the image document the event/ how does the image tell the story?
The image of this photo tells well about the people who protest Mubarak and stones are thrown to people who support the Mubarak government. The people’s faces definitely indicate the aims for their hope to have freedom. It is very realistic and not artificial. There is a man who is filming that situation and a woman who is frowning. Therefore, this picture explains a lot about the event.
-Identify the main subject and what emphasizes it. (Leading lines, repetition, rule of thirds, contrast, framing).
The main subject in this picture is that the people below the picture framing the main people who are tossed by stones. Also, they make me focus on the middle of the picture. Also, there is a repetition of stones flying in various different ways.

-Comment why it is your favourite.
The reason I choose this as my favorite is that the circular shape of the boat rally draws me attention. Also, the fact that the picture is taken from the top of the boat is interesting because I can see in a different perspective and I can see the inside of the boat which many things are going on.

-Explain what the event is. What is the significance of the event/photo? The even in this picture is that the Indian family fish on their circular boat in the waters of the Periyar River on the outskirts of the southern Indian city of Kochi on Jan. 5. I think the significance in this picture is that the whole family members are in the boat. I can see that they are fishing for living and the stuff in the boat are fish net and some fish they caught.

-Describe the photos, how does the image document the event/ how does the image tell the story? In the picture, the child's facial expression looks very calm but also very uncomfortable. In my opinion, it portrays the difficult situation in her family. Also, I could assume that they fish for living. A lot of things are going on in the boat. Fish and the fish nets are in the boat.

-Identify the main subject and what emphasizes it. (Leading lines, repetition, rule of thirds, contrast, framing).
The river around the boat which is the main subject becomes as framing so that it forces viewers' attention. The circular line of the boat is very intense and distinct which makes this photo very interesting.

-Comment why it is your favourite.
This photo is my favorite because the reflection of the towers and firework interests me. Also, I like the black silhouette people between the real towers and the reflection of the towers in a pool. I can feel the celebrating and exciting mood in this photo.

-Explain what the event is. What is the significance of the event/photo?
In this picture, fireworks explode near Malaysia's landmark Petronas Twin Towers which are reflected in a pool during New Year celebrations in Kuala Lumpur. Because it is New Year celebration, the colorful fire work and some people who are watching those firework are important to signify this photo.

-Describe the photos, how does the image document the event/ how does the image tell the story?
The night scene brings the atmosphere of celebrating the New Year. The fire work that reflected on the pool is very precise and even it looks more like real. However, it would be more nice if there are more people celebrating each other and more action so that I can see more energy of the New Year.

-Identify the main subject and what emphasizes it. (Leading lines, repetition, rule of thirds, contrast, framing).
The main subject is firework and the twin building at night. Also, the repetition of the fire work and the buildings empathize. Also, the line that separates the real firework and the one that reflected on the pool catch viewers’ attention.

Aperture & Depth of Field

  1. Aperture/F-stop- "f-3.5-f8",opening up 1 F-stop means making the aperture size larger to allow more light through the lens and "stopping down" means making the aperture size or F-stop smaller to allow less light through the lens
  2. Aperture Priority-  is a setting on some cameras that allows the user to choose a specific aperture value while the camera selects a shtter speed to match.
  3. Ambient Light- refers to any source of light that is not explicitly supplied by the photographer for the purpose of taking photos
  4. Artificial Light- any lighting that is not sunlight.
  5. ASA/ISO/Film Speed- All film has a speed rating, whether digital or traditional. You may see this number called ASA or ISO (both indicate the film's rated speed). The ISO / ASA rating describes how quickly the film reacts to light.
  6. Exposure Triangle-
  7. Bracket- A method where you take numerous versions of the same photograph using varied exposure settings to ensure one precise result Some cameras have an ‘auto bracketing mode’ where the camera fires off several frames of varying exposure in sequence
  8. How to control the depth of field -Achieving this quality by controlling the depth of field, which is the front-to-back zone in the frame in which objects appear sharp. When little else but the main subject appears sharp, that’s known as “shallow” depth of field. When the image is sharp from front-to-back, that’s known as “deep” depth of field.
Three factors affect depth of field – lens aperture, distance from camera to subject and lens focal length. Aperture is most often used to control depth of field. To make as much of the scene as sharp as possible, set as small an aperture (f-stop) as the lighting will allow. To single out a subject, set as wide as aperture as possible; you’ll have to change the shutter speed to compensate in both instance.
  9. Light Meter- is a device used to measure the amount of light
*** The meaning of the depth of field, i did in another post!!!***

Depth of Field

-Definiation-
Depth of field is the range of distance that appears acceptably sharp. It varies depending on camera type, aperture and focusing distance, although print size and viewing distance can also influence our perception of depth of field. Also, it is the distance between the nearest and farthest objects.

How to control depth of field-

Larger apertures (smaller F-stop number) and closer focusing distances produce a shallower depth of field. The following test maintains the same focus distance, but changes the aperture setting.
